The relentless onslaught of saltwater, high humidity, and intense sunlight, strong winds posed a significant threat to the longevity and aesthetics of their beautiful coastal home.
Solution:
In search of a robust and reliable solution, Johnstone’s Paint, a renowned brand known for its quality and durability. The goal was to protect the exterior surfaces of a recently completed seaside residence from the corrosive effects of saltwater, ensuring long-term resilience against the elements. Johnstone’s Pliolite is an oil based paint ideally suited to protect against harsh coastal elements. Johnstone’s Trade Stormshield Pliolite Based Masonry Finish is a solvent-based paint that’s suitable for exterior use on cement rendering, rough cast, brick and concrete. It can be applied in temperatures of -5°c and is shower-resistant in only 20 minutes, allowing application at any time of the year. Application Process:
Surface preparation:
Before applying Johnstone’s Paint, thorough surface preparation was crucial. Johnstone’s Trade Professional Sterilisation Wash is used. A water-based solution formulated for the control and treatment of fungal and algal growth before painting. It is suitable for interior and exterior treatment. Providing coverage of around 3-7 square metres per litre after dilution, depending on the degree of algal growth, it needs to be left to dry for 24 hours before further treatments are applied or before overpainting takes place.
Selection of Paint:
Johnstone’s Pliolite Paint was chosen for its reputation for weather resistance and durability. The selected product was specifically designed to withstand the challenges posed by coastal environments, offering superior protection against saltwater, UV rays, and humidity. In this case Brilliant white was selected by the client however there are thousands of colour fast exterior shades to select.
Paint Application:
Johnstone’s Pliolite Paint can be applied using a combination of brushes and rollers to achieve a consistent and even finish. The paint’s high coverage and adhesion properties proved critical in providing comprehensive protection to the exterior surfaces. Pliolite is also suitable for spray application.
Multiple Coats for Enhanced protection:
Recognizing the severity of the coastal conditions, a minimum of two coats of Johnstones Paint are recommended. This approach maximized the protective layers, ensuring a robust shield against salt spray, humidity, and UV exposure.
